Antoni Gaudi Architecture

The first grade students traveled to Barcelona and studied a renowned architect, Antoni Gaudi. After viewing much of his unique architecture, students created their own versions of Gaudi-like architecture in clay. The students finished their projects by adding colorful beads to recreate the beautiful mosaic work of Gaudi.

The first grade studied various mosaic works of Antoni Gaudi and practiced making creative compositions using beads and tiles!

The Bedroom

Inspired by one of the most famous Impressionists, Van Gogh, the first grade students created their own bedroom paintings after the Bedroom in Arles.  The students painted with vibrant colors and used oil pastel to replicate the essence of Impressionism.

Porcelain Blue China

The first grade studied their sister country, China's invention-porcelain China.  They looked at the intricate designs of traditional China painted in blue then they created their own versions of it!

Cute Monster -Part 1

Right around Halloween, the first graders designed original monsters that they would like to create as stuffed animals. This is the design stage for our cute stuffed monster production!

Dr. Seuss Truffula Tree

Celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday, the first grade students painted these colorful Truffle trees using various painting techniques such as dabbing with paper towels and fan brushing to create the fuzzy texture.

The first grade studied about Surrealism and Joan Miro. They looked at his style of drawing that combined bold lines, primary hues and imaginary subjects. We learned that surrealism is about capturing ideas that exist outside of reality. The first graders created their own dreamlike characters inspired by Miro's paintings.

Surrealist Sculpture

Inspired by Joan Miro, the first grade students created wire sculptures that embodied the spirit of surrealism. They based their wire sculptures off of their surrealist drawings, then used a paper mache material to coat the wire. The final touch was adding a vibrant array of primary colors!

Shoebox Bedroom

After learning about Van Gogh's the Bedroom in Arles, the students created a shoebox dioramas of their own bedroom. They created furniture that they currently have in their own room using clay and other fun materials.

Cute Monster -Part 2

The first grade students turned their designed monsters into cute stuffed animals.  They learned two different stitching techniques and then sewed themselves cute little monsters to hug!
